I am so excited for an exciting year in fourth grade math! We are going to have a great time learning together! We are using a series called Envisions Math. It is aligned to the Common Core State Standards and has great technology components that can be used both in the classroom and at home!
This year, recall of the basic multiplication facts are extremely important. We will be using our multiplication facts in almost everything we do this year. We will be exploring place value, multiplication and long division, and expanding our knowledge in decimals, fractions, geometry, and data and measurement. Showing the way we think about math when we solve it is very important! All year, we will be focusing on showing our thinking process and learning how to break apart multistep word problems. I can't wait to work on these concepts together!
You can find the math topic we are working on by checking the "Review what you know" page that i will send home at the beginning of each topic. You can also check Canvas at any time to get a look at the weeks plan. I also list any math tests for the week on class tag as well. Math daily common core review (DCCR) is typically given on a Monday and due on Thursday. The students will have 3 days to complete the front and back assignment. A DCCR is a review of concepts already learned and practiced, to help previously learned topics stay fresh in the students minds. THE DCCR is graded for completion (4 points), which was explained in my fourth grade homework policy sent home with the students during the first week of school. Other homework may be sent home throughout the week, ON AN OCCASIONAL BASIS, if we didn't finish something in class or need additional practice time.
I hope you have a BLAST in math this year!! :)
